Rakish Sinéad!!!

Session on this past Tuesday evening was a pure blast! Endulging in a typical, and always delicious dinner at St. Stephen's Green... mmmmm one of my favorites... baked Cod, spinach and baked potatoe, I then set to moving some tables and chairs to set up for session.

In the process of the moving, I devilishly donned Frank's tweedy and sporty, Irish country cap... as it lay, abandoned, upon the table. A few minutes later, Frank looked up and exclaimed, laughing - upon seeing me in his cap! Then he suddenly and most unexpectedly, sprinted out the door of the pub!

Where did Frank go? Out to his car, to promptly return with the most sporty, and rather rakish cap, most delightful in appearance as any that i've seen! He then gallantly presented it to me and said - "Happy Birthday!"... granted he was 3 and a half months late, which he did - dutifully acknowledge, but generously gave me this beautiful, Donegal wool, tweed cap! I donned it right away, and loved it on sight! This cap and I were like - Peas and Carrots!

That night I played fiddle as though I were possessed by the spirit of the great Donegal - Celtic Cap!!! Frank declaired lauging that "It was my magic cap, and it would take me anywhere!" And so it did... and the night flew by... on the wings of melody, song... laughter and delightful conversation!

Our Session friends jokingly renamed me "Rakish Sinéad"... Sinéad being the closest to 'Jennifer' in the Gaelic language... which was then - promply shortened to "Rakish Sinéa" Which thus now entitles my somewhat mischievous, and often times naughty -alter ego and fiddling demon!

Thank you Frank for the most loveliest of caps! You are a dear friend, and a kind heart, and a good spirit, and it's always a fun evening to play tunes, share songs...and pass the time with you!

As I've always belived: Amongst Musicians, one will always find friends!

Winter slipping...

Winter’s icy, polar grip is slipping… the sky softly said this morning… in whispered shades of pink and purple… The big tree that etches and outlines my back yard, black and lacy against the morning sky, is now swelling with promise of leafy buds… giving almost a redish hue to the ominous black branches… heralding the unavoidable approach of Spring…
spring tree
Unlike most folks though, I’ll miss the winter… the snows, the frost and the fire… I’ll miss the dark candle lit evenings… the comforting warmth of the kitchen, when dinner’s on… and the big cozy boots… yes, I’ll reluctantly abandon them for the much sought relief in the shade of the big tree on those hot summer afternoons… Yes, I’ll miss the winter for sure...
