2010 Art Show & Sale at Kirby's Mill
03/08/10 14:52
This year we were
thrilled to play the Art Show and Sale – again
at beautiful Kirby’s Mill in Medford, NJ.
There were some awesome vendors selling their crafts… from stunning baskets with antler handles… to all natural soaps and jewely, stationary, and paintings… then some other crafts that lay in between! TONS to look at and bring home if you had the right price!

The weather held off most of the day… we had a beautiful breeze off the Mill pond… I played a lot of my new songs from the new CD “Shadow of a Crow” that should be out by fall… 2010… barring any glitches.
We had a nice afternoon, played some dulcimer tunes… which I don’t get to do at the Pub…

so that was enjoyable… Here’s Mom & Abbie… in front of “Original Abbie’s” booth… I’m so proud of her!

Mom was there with me… I asked her to be my “roadie” since she’s so big and strong… and we made her load and unload the equipment and all… she’s a work horse… (JUST KIDDING… she is a hard worker but we didn’t make her load/unload the car) Instead, she supervised my merchandise table…

When the rains came… I grabbed my dulcimer and sang one of the songs off my upcoming album… “Good Day to Rain” and amazing as it was… there was THUNDER… on the right part of the song… like it was que’d in!!! I guess God was listening… AND he has a sense of humor… cause it got us all laughing…
But for a while there… the rain did pummel us… and Abbie ran from her booth… holding the plastic maniquin over her head… and that got us laughing too… it was somehow… strange, but funny…
So we took her half woman - naked maniquin and grabbed a photo op… Abbie always makes me laugh.

So… it was a great day all in all! Thank you to Bill Stauts, and Holly Doyle, at Jersey Made who asked us to come play again this year!

Queen Anne's Lace...
03/08/10 13:43
I don't know exactly
what it is about the sight of Queen Anne's Lace...
that somehow signals the Summer evenings to become
cooler... and the mornings to capture a bit of
crispness in the air... but still the day holds that
warm, summer feeling... And if that feeling had a
scent... it would probably be mix of Coppertone,
campfire, BBQ and burnt marshmello...
A long, pleasant recovery ride on my bike today... After my 355 miles i put down in July... I decided to take it easy today and went to IBSP... I brought my camera, to assure I'd take it easier... and i paused here and there... and tried and capture exactly what it is... I find so inspiring on this desolate stretch of sand bar, dune grass & road... which... even on a beautiful summer morning - is quiet... where just the wind whispers... and the sea gulls cry...
It's a solitary place for cyclists, runners & fishermen... except for week ends when the throngs of beach goers come down and flood the island... but there's beauty that is inspiring for picture taking, writing... for thoughts... for songs... even just for silent prayers... said quietly... or for just thinking about things...
It was amazing watching the Osprey - raising their young this summer... flying over my head, usually with a fish, clasped in their talons... and seeing them as they perch on the brackets of their nest... tearing the fish and feeding the babies...
There's life going on everywhere... turtles of all sorts cross the road in front of me so often... I always stop and quicken their journey... for fear of a car going by and smooshing them... I helped a teeny tiny snapping turtle once, the size of silver dollar... but he turned and bit my fingernail as i reached down... so... he just got the toe of my cycling shoe... to assist HIM to the other side! What an ungrateful little bugger!!! haha... I need to play fiddle with these fingers! Then... there's the snakes (eewwwww) they slither out... gliding back and forth across the black top... Then there's the red foxes - shamelessly begging for food from passers by... I am particularly fond of the big, black crows, but there's nothing like seeing a Great Blue Heron, the Ibis, pelicans or Knat Catchers... so many awesome things if ya just LOOK... and keep your eyes open!
And it's amazing how much life... and how much beauty... and maybe I'm goofy... but I even find - the dead, barren trees... standing... bleached out by sun and salty wind... somehow pretty... reaching up to the sky... I guess beauty's in the eye of the beholder...
and equally beautiful are the black branches... like an odd bit of tendrilled scrolling... tattooing itself against the sky...
Then there are the odd berries... and the rich, shiny leaves of the poison ivy.... which is so very pretty but - don't touch! YIKES!
And the sailing club... set out on the Bay that i pass by... So... I guess it's a nice place to ride... and it changes so much... season to season... which gives so much scope for the imagination... as well as being a great place to stretch out and ride some serious miles... in mostly quiet safety... So... I ride along... and I sing while I'm spinnin' away... but if I could figure out - how to play fiddle... and ride my bike at the same time... I’d be happy as a clam!
