Jan 2009

January has been Productive... and is lookin’ Good!

There’s been a lot of talking about the newest cd I’m working on… which is entitled - “Shadow of a Crow” – and finally I feel like we’re making good, forward progress on it. Our Producer, Tom White from Wizmak Studios, NY - seems really optimistic and enthusiastic about the project… which then - inspires me as well. He’s awesome and has so many wonder and creative ideas it blows my mind! So I wanted to share this with you all!

I’ve attached three clips from 3 of the songs from the album… All three are original songs I’ve written and created the music for… but then, I’ve written all the songs on the album.

Slow Dancing With Ghosts” – I wrote a few years back, after the house fire... on guitar is our man John Wilson’s handywork - with his 12 string guitar. My vocals for that song are still up in the air as to whether we keep them, or not… We also added an electric bass to this…

I wrote “Low Willow” when I was out at the barn one hot, summer afternoon. I named this song after a willow tree that grows by ‘Gus’s’ paddock… It was one of those warm, dreamy days... that seem just perfect... and this all came to me... The barn's a happy place...
I play guitar on this song, and do the vocals as well… we also added electric bass… I love the bass part on this… it sways this song up real nice!

She’s Gone” is again, me on guitar and vocals, with a slow, easy electric bass part behind it…

BUT REMEMBER.... these are ROUGH mixes – not EQ’d – not mixed too much… just chucked down, and burned for listening to…. To get more ideas! I know i'm jumpin the gun... but some folks have been asking... so here's a quick sampler! Hope you like!

Maybe it's just the melancoly of another year that's come to pass that i'm being sentimental... but I'm grateful for all our friends who come to make the session as fun as it is! Noreen... however... and you too Bernie... WE MISS YOU BOTH!!!!!!
phil and frank
The dry and sometimes "skampish" humor from our dear boy Frank, keeps us all laughing, and the wonderful and most unexpected and delightful surprise guests who come out to play is always a treat!09-28-08_Matty Connolly 1
