Thank you to our friends... St. Patrick's at Stephen's Green!

Hi Folks!
We had GREAT time on St Patrick's evening at St Stephen's Green - notwithstanding the ‘sound’ obstacles presented… Holy smokes! Can ya spell = L-O-U-D!!! The crowd that
could hear us - were all smiles and dancing - and our wild Irish music was appreciated - so I call this a success!

First - We want to say thank you to John Meade and his staff - for the kind and generous hospitality in asking us to participate in the celebrations at his new pub - St. Stephen's Green!

A great big THANK YOU to our friends who came to play with us that evening! Lenore - who taught me how to be a fiddle chick – and is always there for me… I LOVE you! You are the BEST! Diane... God bless that lilting flute you play with such delightful fineness... we could hear it's divine melody through the pub's croud! Mitch - you're great and a super solid back up that I was SO glad to have! And you're funny too... I think we laughed all night long – and into the early morning hours! We love you man! Bob & Lyn... the musical couple in our group – other than Phil and I - you guys are a much appreciated constant in our musical family that we can depend upon, thank you for being there for us! Eileen… I don’t know how you did it.. .but even without a mic – we could hear the heavenly notes from your harp… it was a true blessing to have you there! Marean… guitar work and your rich and vibrant voice – as you presented those lively (and sometimes naughty!) Irish songs – were just divine… and exactly what folks were wanting to hear! Bob S… we’re glad you could come play with us! Sorry about the crazy ride home…

So… whew… oh wait! Last but certainly not least… thanks to Kelly – dear sweet Kelly - for driving us all home, cheerfully I might add... and selling cd’s for me, wearing that goofy green, plastic hat – and finding the pin fromthe Guinness company – that said “Ask for me at the Bar!” for Lenore! THANK you ALL our friends! You guys are the BEST!
I love you guys! Jennifer!

Session officially starts up on Sunday!

Now that the dust has settled and we've had a bit of rest - we're officially kicking off the first regular session at St. Stephen's Green from 2-5 every Sunday afternoon - staring this Sunday - on March 25th, 2007. Arleene & Tom – from “Cat & The Fiddle” - formally introduced Philip & Jennifer up at the session last week at St. James Gate… so here’s the scoop!

Philip and Jennifer have been asked to be the regular, anchor hosts every Sunday, along with their two friends and wonderful musicians - Frank Curran and Rich Brautigan.

This is an open session, and welcome anyone who wants to play a traditional Irish tune. For those who are new to Irish music, don't be shy! If you’d like to play a particular tune a little bit slower - speak up! We’re there to play music, share & have fun!

Our goal here is to have a nice time, and play some good Irish music. It’s not a race to play the fastest, nor the loudest – but to play along with other folks,
listen to the other musicians, and try and make the tune sound as beautiful as you can. If you’re really good – you’ll be able to compliment the other musician’s tune with your own playing! Granted -this doesn’t always work out… but that’s okay… just keep trying! Last week, one of the session leaders - Tom Dunne, an amazingly talented fiddler and box player, up at St. Jame's Gate pub in Maplewood... asked Philip to start a tune. Philip started the tune, but felt that his tempo and timing was atrocious... so he stopped playing… Tom kindly asked everyone at the session – to play the same tune again - but this time, at a slower pace. Well wouldn’t ya know… this time, it sounded and felt great! Tom is a lovely example of a fine, gentleman musician, and a shining example of what a session leader should be. Thank you Tom!

Details: For performing musicians - One alcoholic drink is on the house. After that, the musican must pay for what he orders… however - soft drinks such as soda, seltzer, tea or coffee, are on the house.

Jennifer has been designated to collect payment for drinks etc… and make sure the musician’s tabs are paid. So don’t leave session until you've squared away your bill with her! We will be tipping the waitress as we customarily do, she works hard!

St. Stephen Green is modeled after St James Gate, in Maplewood, and we aspire to carry on the same high caliber quality of Traditional Irish Music... We hope to see you there!

St. Stephen's Green - We checked it out last night!

Phil and I ventured over to the new Pub - St Stephens Green - that will be hosting our traditional Irish Session every Sunday afternoon from 2 - 5 pm and it is one BEAUTIFUL place! When you first walk in, you get the feeling you've stepped into an old pub in Dublin! From the old, raised panel chair rails, to the classic old lights, carved wood and warm golden color - you just feel enveloped in the Irish tradition of friendly, welcoming hospitality! The staff there, despite their fast pace - were friendly and cheerful, and made us feel so welcome! They were just written up in the paper today - so click here for the link if you want to read about it!!! St. Stephen's Green ahs got great food, fresh guinness and tons of friendly faces! We walked in and made lots of new friends and had a lovely dinner! Even shared our table with another couple we'd never met - but had a fun time talking and sharing our space! This is a MUST GO TO place! If you go on Sunday - and you see us... make sure you come over and say hi!!! Read More...

Paddy Whacked - The Irish Mob

If you missed it last year... here it is again... Jennifer & Philip had the wonderful opportunity to play the traditional Irish music for the soundtrack on "Paddy Whacked - History of the Irish Mob" f or the History Channel last year.
There is other "Space Odyssey" type of music that is thrown in... we didn't do THAT... but the other music is Jennifer & Philip!
It's playing on - St. Patty's day at 5:00 pm. One of the tunes Jennifer will be playing is "King of the Fairies" while Mickey Spillane is bleeding into the gutter after he's shot... yucky scene - but a good tune! And during the film footage of Pres. Kennedy being signed into office as president of the United States they'll play Blarney Pilgrim! Just to name a few spots! And besides the good tunes - it's a pretty interesting show... They're featured more in the second half of the 2 hour program.
For more information -
click here - and this link will take you to the History Channel website/link! It's pretty violent - (makes the Soprano's look like Bambi) but the tunes are good and the show is very intersting! Read More...
