and Winter is closing in...

Here at
the somewhat deserted, Jersey shore… the
leaves are finally beyond their peak - much later
than last year… They now display more browns -
than orange, gold or red… and are falling much
like the snows that I know will soon follow.

And the already fallen leaves - crunching under my feet, make me think – in almost a melancholy way - of when I was a kid in New England… and how I loved the smell of apple cider, thick in the air – when it was being freshly pressed at Dowse’s Apple orchard - where I use to work after school… And how I loved to roam down along the fields and orchards, brimming with bright orange pumpkins, and crisp, red apples… and there was always the smell of someone’s fire burning… Oh yes, there was always that…
But now – here I end up on the eastern shore of New Jersey, with the old fishing boats rolling in and out of the inlet… and the year round, hardcore surfers…
Hiking the back, bay islands with our Border Collie "Sligo" - it's evident that the ice will be forming lacy patterns - on the quiet, Bay waters soon...

and the warm breezes, and the sweet smell of Coppertone has been replaced by that delicious, autumn, earthy smell of sweet, decaying leaves and damp earth – edged - ever so sharply - with cold… soon to be – quite bitter cold - I know... that drift down on the Arctic, Canadian winds… in the now rapidly, darkening afternoon hours of the day… decending into long, delicious nights - of playing fiddle - by a warm, crackling fire…
I really love this time of year… Jennifer

Music by the Bay – First Annual Festival was a HIT!
06/11/07 10:58
A
marvelous time was had by all at the first annual
Music by the Bay – where all the proceeds went
to benefit the The Natural Resource Education
Foundation of New Jersey.
Workshops were lively and fun – with Maddie MacNeil teaching Hammered Dulcimer, Lorraine Hammond and Jennifer Mylod teaching Mountain Dulcimer workshops, Bennett Hammond teaching guitar in drop D tuning, Philip Mylod teaching Irish whistle classes and Jennifer – also teaching Irish fiddle workshops!
A beautiful presentation was made to Dave Field, luthier of Mountain Dulcimers and Celtic Harps for a lifetime achievement – by Pola Galie who also organized and ran the festival.

Above - a photo of Dave Field and his daughter doing a Celtic Harp and Mountain Dulcimer tune - both instruments crafted by Dave.
Maddie MacNeil was the featured performer and as always – gave a lovely performance at the Saturday evening concert. She was preceeded by Lorraine & Bennett Hammond, a husband and wife team who sang, played mountain dulcimer and guitar and banjo.

Jennifer and Philip Mylod along with John Wilson on guitar opened the Saturday evening concert with their original music as well as some Irish jigs and reels on the fiddle and Uilleann Pipes.
If you’d like to be notified for next year’s “Music By the Bay” event… send Jennifer an email and she’ll make sure you get added to the notification list!
And you WON’T be added to any spam list!
Don’t miss out on the fun next year! For more info - check this link!
