In Shadow of a Crow - (which is also the title track for her next CD) Jennifer writes from the perspective of a solitary crow. The words tell of how the crow toils through the seasons, scraping by, as we all do sometimes. In her song, Jennifer speaks to the crow, as she would to her very own soul, and through her lyrics, depicts the changes in it’s world, while keeping a devotion to the driving need of survival. Jennifer brings this tune to life with the hypnotic - 12 string guitar rhythm and is accompanied by Philip on the Native American Flute.
“She Moved Through the Fair" – on their “Mylodic Isle” cd - is one of many traditional Irish favorites that Jennifer calls her own. This particular tune, dating back to Medieval times, is delivered by Jennifer's deep, resonant voice, and draws up the ghostly voices - from a well of memories - that have sung this song for hundreds of years hence. Together with Philip on the low Irish whistle they ring out a haunting and alluring melody - which accents the compelling lyrics of this ancient tune. This song is mesmerizing as it recounts the courting of a young man and woman in a love that is lasting, yet sadly - unfinished.
Jennifer's first instrument was the Mountain dulcimer. Classically trained on the Cello, she also plays her 12 string Taylor guitars, and her beloved fiddle (much smaller than the cello and a heck of a lot easier to fit in the car!) The fiddle has been her new passion now for several years. She’s also been known to pick up a bodhran, and whip out a driving beat in particular songs… “As I Roved Out” is a great example – and can be heard on “Mylodic Isle”.
She and Philip spent some time traveling - coast to coast - in Ireland, and played in every pub they could find. They had a total blast and a lifetime of memories and laughs -not to mention a load of new tunes!
They play somewhere just about every night - whether in a pub, a living room - in front of crackling fire - or on a front porch!
Ahhhh! Music for Jennifer and Philip is alive and well - and very good for the heart and soul!
